As a field adjuster, no two days look the same. One day you’re climbing onto a storm-damaged roof. The next, you’re inspecting a flooded basement three towns over. With long drives, back-to-back inspections, documentation deadlines, and constant communication with policyholders, staying organized isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.

Here are some practical, field-tested tips to help you stay on top of your work, reduce stress, and keep your claims running smoothly.

1. Set Up a Daily Routine (Even If Your Day Changes)

While your location may vary, your workflow doesn’t have to. Start each morning by checking your appointments, reviewing open claims, and prioritizing tasks. Block time for travel, inspections, documentation, and follow-ups. A consistent rhythm—even in a flexible environment—can keep you from falling behind.

2. Use a Digital Calendar Religiously

Don’t rely on memory. Whether it’s Google Calendar, Outlook, or an app provided by your firm, keep every inspection, call, and deadline on your calendar. Set reminders for claim updates and follow-up tasks so nothing slips through the cracks—especially when you're juggling 10+ claims at once.

6. Follow a Checklist for Every Claim

Even experienced adjusters can forget small steps under pressure. Create a master checklist for each type of claim (property, auto, liability, etc.). Use it during every inspection so you don’t miss required photos, measurements, or policyholder signatures.
